An expanded meeting of the Board of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan was held

An expanded meeting of the Board of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan was held today on the basis of L.N. Gumilev ENU. The event was attended by Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan Altai Kulginov, Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan Sayasat Nurbek, representatives of the Administration of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan, rectors of universities, heads of research institutes and subordinate organizations of the Ministry, as well as public figures.

Minister Sayasat Nurbek summed up the results of 2022 and presented the tasks for 2023 in the light of the election program of the Head of State Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.

- "As part of his election platform, the Head of State gave a number of instructions on the development of higher education. Firstly, it is planned to increase student scholarships by 2 times until 2025. Secondly, providing all students with free access to the world's digital libraries. Thirdly, the solution of the problem of shortage of places in student dormitories. Work on the implementation of these tasks has begun and will continue in 2023 together with the heads of universities," said Sayasat Nurbek

Also, in his speech, the Minister noted the priorities of higher education, which formed the basis of the development strategy of the Ministry.

- "For the accessibility of higher education, an annual increase in grants by 5,000 is envisaged until 2025. The same positive dynamics in the size of the scholarship. Already, the labor market dictates that knowledge in only one area is not enough to be in demand. To do this, the principle of an interdisciplinary approach is increasingly being used in personnel training. The annual increase in the number of students stimulates competition among universities and leads to a variety of their educational programs. In order to synchronize the labor market and education, we have started work on the development of regional maps of professions based on a foresight session among university teaching staff and analysis of the regional market," the head of the department said.

During his speech, Sayasat Nurbek stressed that as part of the instructions of the Head of State, a completely new Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan "On Science and Technology Policy" will be developed, which will become the basis for the transition to a new course in the field of science and thereby ensure the introduction of a new model of science and technology.

The head of the department also summed up the results of 2022 in one of the important areas of the ministry – in language policy. According to the minister, 20 titles of textbooks in the Kazakh language for universities and TVET have been published. 63 events dedicated to the 150th anniversary of Akhmet Baitursynov were held. In addition, the Government Decree approved the Badge "Ana tilin damytuga koskan ulesi ushin" and the Badge "Akhmet Baitursynuly".

Following the results of the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan Altai Kulginov gave a number of specific instructions in the field of development of science, higher education and language policy.
