Scientists of Syr region met with the President

During a working trip to Almaty, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev met with the scientific community of "Gylym Ordasy" of the National Academy of Sciences.

The meeting was attended by Chairman of the Board-Rector of Korkyt Ata Kyzylorda University, Candidate of Philological Sciences Beibitkul Karimova;

- Senior lecturer of the Educational program "Biology, Geography and Chemistry", Candidate of Agricultural Sciences, head of the greenhouse Samalbek Kosanov;

- Professor-researcher of Educational programs "Engineering technologies" Nurbol Appazov;

 - Head of the Laboratory of engineering profile "Physico-chemical methods of analysis", PhD, Associate Professor Nurgali Akylbekov;

 - senior lecturer of Educational programs "Electric Power Engineering, Technosphere Safety and Ecology", PhD Sikhanova Nurgul Sagyndykovna took part.

In his speech, the President said that a country that relies only on raw materials has no future. According to the Head of State, we need scientists, engineers, and inventors..

– During this difficult period, when rivalry between states in all spheres has intensified, our country has begun the transition to a new economic model. We have started to create a fair, inclusive and competitive economy. It should be based on science and innovation. We need to be among the leading countries, not the led ones. In short, we need to increase our scientific potential. In general, work is underway in this direction. At the meeting of the National Council for Science and Technology, I gave a number of specific instructions. All problems are solved under my direct supervision. The draft plan for a law "On Science and Technology Policy" is currently being considered in Parliament. Yesterday, the Senate approved it in the first reading. This is a very important and long-awaited document. It is necessary to improve the science management system. The issue of social support for scientists is of particular importance. Therefore, the law will take into account the interests of the scientific community as much as possible," Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said.           

President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev noted the comprehensive measures taken in the country to develop science and higher education. In particular, the number of grants for the development of qualified personnel has increased one and a half times in recent years. There are branches of 12 prestigious universities in Kazakhstan. Several more will open soon. More and more universities are engaged in scientific research. Technology parks and engineering centers are opening. Every year 500 scientists undergo internships abroad. The Ministry allocates thousands of grants to young scientists. According to the President, all these are measures that will have a positive impact on the development of Kazakh science.

According to the head of state, in the context of the global scientific and technological revolution, the role of scientists and intellectuals is significantly increasing. However, even the richest countries cannot conduct high-level research in all areas. Therefore, in order to achieve success, it is necessary to determine priority areas and concentrate the efforts of the scientific community, the state and business.

Further, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev elaborated on the situation in such areas as digitalization, energy, including nuclear, petrochemistry, geological exploration, mechanical engineering, medicine, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, agriculture, road transport infrastructure, water resources management, forecasting and prevention of natural and man-made emergencies.      

In conclusion, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said that in the next two years the number of grants for research by young scientists will increase again, for which 18 billion tenge will be allocated from the budget. Also, through specific measures, work on support of science and the scientific community will continue in the country as a whole.

At the end of the event, the President noted that social support for young scientists is the task of the state, and solemnly presented certificates for apartments to 10 citizens working in various fields of science. President of the National Academy of Sciences under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Akylbek Kurishbayev and Deputy Chairman of the Council of Young Scientists at the National Academy of Sciences Shahislam Layshanov also spoke at the meeting.
