Gambling is a disease of society

A round table "Kumar oyin − kogam derti" was held at the Korkyt ata Kyzylorda University.

In accordance with the "Roadmap for improving youth policy among students of educational organizations for 2023-2024" of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan, an event was held, which was attended by university teachers, theologians, legal professionals and students.

The main purpose of the event is to conduct psychoprophylactic work to provide Up-to-date information to young people, especially in the context of ludomania, a gambling passion that is widespread in modern society, especially among young people.

During the round table, theologian, member of the republican information and explanatory group on the religious sphere Bakhtiyar Esengeldiuly conducted explanatory work with young people regarding the dangers of receiving religious content from the Internet and ways to protect themselves from foreign movements.

"Our time is the time of information technology. The answer to what you want to know can be found quickly and easily on the Internet. Among the many Internet networks, there is information that brings both benefits and harm to a person. One of them is the sources that make up the ideology of destructive religious movements disguised as religion. Few people wonder which of these pieces of information is correct and which is not. Therefore, when reading any information, it is necessary to read from reliable sources. You don't need to believe everything that the Internet says and shows," Bakhtiyar Yesengeldiuly said.

Further, the AMPS operative of the analytical group of the Department of Economic Investigations in the region, Nurbol Alkebayuly, focused on the work of the department today, spoke about the harm of ludomania, about the fight against this disease of society: "The definition of a crime by the economic investigation body, the disclosure of these crimes is our daily work. We are also working on crime prevention. To cleanse society of crime, first of all, people must be legally literate. Our goal today is the same, it is to prevent the facts of offenses among young people. On the contrary, we want young people to be more responsible and active. And in the future we call for joint work in this direction, and already this year 2 criminal cases on illegal gambling have been registered. – he added. In particular, a resident of the region's district played a game with bookmakers live on the social network Instagram. The criminal income is 13 million, i.e. the criminal case has been sent to court.

- Over the past 2 years, the department has conducted 23 criminal cases against illegal gambling, and 22 gambling establishments have been closed. All criminal cases have been completed and a court decision has been rendered. As a result of the preventive work carried out since the beginning of the year, 185 links have been blocked through the «Cybernadzor»  system, 5 accounts have been eliminated," he said.
